Brecon Beacons – Forest Work Cabin

Our client came to us, all the way from the Brecon Beacons. Full planning permission was required for this timber cabin, and although in the National Park, there were no objections as it is being used for forestry purposes. We had to provide full specifications for raw materials used - fairly easy as our ethos is always sustainability, home grown timbers and providing a good fit for our clients. You may ask 'why not a local company?' Well - if you can't find a local company that understands your vision, has the same ethos and a track record to rely on, sometime you have to go further afield. We will travel, and we use local hauliers to move our buildings, tying in with them to return haul into the county, making the trip as a small a footprint as possible.

A ground screw base was used ( Stop Digging SW ) this is an environmental alternative to a concrete base, and in an area where there are trees, and roots, it has no impact on the root system. By keeping the building clear of the ground, it also allows for storage of timber logs, keeping them dry and aired. This building was roofed with a homegrown cedar shingle roof. Cedar shingle roofs need no maintenance - the natural oils will keep the shingle waterproof with a life expectancy of in excess of 80 years. Insects dislike cedar infestation is rare if not unheard. The shingles were sourced from cedar grown in Wales. Inside Out buildings recognise the importance of the timber industry and wherever possible support the local and circular economy.
