Tennis Pavilion

We were approached by one of the committee members of South petherton Tennis Club with regard to replacing their aged timber tennis pavilion. From the outset, what seemed to be a fairly straight forward project, became far bigger than all of us anticipated. This was primarily due to funding, South Petherton is a very vibrant community and a large number of the community use & support the club, including schools, and other organisations.

Built of heavy duty feather edge timber over a construction grade (C24) 6*2 carcassing, with insulation in the exterior walls/ceiling and floors. Anthracite UPVC doors and windows with a plastisol coated steel roof.

They worked hard at fundraising, and were able to procure a substantial sum from the British Lawn Tennis Association, but therein lay some ‘good’ problems. The building that was to replace the older dilapidated timber pavilion was no longer to be replaced like for like, but to be built as per the The Lawn Tennis Regulations specification.

This meant that the structure had to be fully compliant with all building regulations that you associate with a public building. Quite rightly so, but often far out of reach from the pockets of most village purses.

With funding secure, and the specifications as dictated by building regulations, the building is now a flagship pavilion suitable to serve the local community, and it can be offered to outside agencies as it is fully compliant with all modern day legislation.

If we were to build a timber pavilion, open to, and used by members of the wider public, this pavilion would not have needed the building regulations attached to the rules of the funding by the Lawn tennis Association.
