A Roundup of Shows!
We’ve had a wonderful but very busy couple of months attending the local shows – Toby’s Gaden Festival at Powderham Castle and the Devon County Show at West Point, Exeter in May, followed by the Royal Bath and West Show at Shepton Mallet and the Royal Cornwall Show at Wadebridge in June… and it’s not over for us yet – we still have the Taunton Flower Show at Vivary Park on the 2nd and 3rd of August, not to mention our ever-increasing order book!
We’ve met some wonderful people and had a lot of interest in our bespoke timber products, including our show building which is shown here in its full photographic glory. Built on a trailer to make our set up and take down easier, but also so that we can show off the various internal finishes available, along with a fully cedar shingle roof, something we have never been able to do before.
Toby’s Garden Festival was the first outing for our purpose-made timber show building – we had lots of lovely feedback in relation to the quality of the timbers used (Scandanavian redwood, treated with TanalithE to preserve and prevent rot) and the quality of the workmanship. The cedar shingles are our speciality. We are very proud of the fact the western red cedar is homegrown in the South West, milled and cut for us by a Cornish sawmill, producing a wonderful shingle, equal (if not better in our opinion) to the widely used Canadian cedar shingle.
Without wanting to hop onto the ‘soapbox’ we do try where possible to support our forestry and local mills. Unfortunately, the UK does not grow redwood and we have made the decision not to use homegrown whitewood for our framing as the quality is not available. That said, we do use larch, western red cedar and douglas fir for cladding where appropriate. Our belief is that supporting the local economy is our priority, and in turn with local customers we keep Inside Out Buildings a company producing a quality timber product, valuing our customers from start to finish.
